A unique stronghold, a village off the beaten track.
At 1050m above sea level, at the junction of the Gorges du Guil and the Durance valley, Mont-Dauphin is a prestigious example of European architecture. The stronghold of Mont-Dauphin, built by Vauban from 1693, is one of the 12 major sites Vauban registered in 2008 as UNESCO World Heritage.
It's also an unusual village where 140 inhabitants live, like everyone else, but in an extraordinary setting of southern sun, dazzling snow, silence and stones full of history.
